1. COVID -19 Awareness Campaign

In the wake of the second wave of covid - 19, the students of Bhavan's college saw bringing about awareness towards Covid appropriate Behaviour and launched a campaign in this regard as part of their social responsibility.

 

   

2. Alumni Meet

The Alumni Meet of Bhavan’s College of Arts & Commerce was conducted 25/03/2021 with thirty ex-students lending their participation. The Alumni Association has been formed in accordance with the NAAC guidelines, and aims in the wholesome development of the college’s ex-student community who still continues to be a great support for the institution. Through the formal events three of the students were raised to the positions of President, Vice President and General Secretary. Through the activities proposed, the Alumni association has vowed to take the association further ahead, with significant contributions that will be made for the betterment of the institution. An agreement has been reached upon, to hold a meeting every three months for discussing the activities of the association.

3. Farewell

The Bhavan’s College family came together to bid farewell to the passing out batch in all gaiety and poignance. The second year students put together several interesting activities and games for the senior students, with guidance and support from the staff and the management.

Aishwarya Harish Sinji (BA English) and Abirami S (B.Com F&T) were honoured with the ‘Best Outgoing Student’ award. Some other students were awarded for their outstanding endeavours and achievements too. The day was marked with messages and good wishes from the Principal and Heads of Departments, to the students for their future endeavours.

Given the covid situation, the programme was conducted following all the covid protocols which included wearing of mask and social distancing.


4. Fresher’s Day

Bhavan’s College of Arts & Commerce has its own special way of welcoming the fresher’s into its fold. This year, as the classes were being conducted online, it temporarily had to suffice with the online Orientation Programme. However, to make up for the inability to formally welcome the newbies to the campus at the beginning, the management and teachers of the college organised a vibrant ‘Freshers’ Day’ for the first year students once their onsite classes commenced. The enthusiastic participation of the students in the games and activities spoke volumes of their joy in coming to their college for the first time after admission.

5. Ghandhi @150

As an honour to the Father of the Nation, the Department of English, Bhavan’s College, organised a quiz competition ‘Know the Mahatma?’ on Wednesday, the 9th of October 2019. This was in line with Government of India’s commemorative celebration of his 150th birth anniversary as ‘150 Years of Celebrating the Mahatma’, through a series of events across the globe to propagate his message at national and international level, thus opening the vistas for two years of celebrating him and enriching the world by sharing his ideologies and beliefs. It was very heartening to see that the quiz met with a very good response/participation by the students.

6. Celebration of the Men in Uniform:

On May 16, 2020, Bhavan's College celebrated the superheroes of the nation, her 'Men in Uniform', for their mettle, their valour, their selflessness...The students lit lamps to commemorate the memory of the Martyrs who laid down their lives in the highest line of duty.

They premiered their short film 'Celebrating Our Heroes', on social media, to salute India's bravehearts, who stand by the country, be it war or otherwise, ensuring the safety of their countrymen with their life's blood, no matter what the circumstances be.

On the occasion, our esteemed guests, Commander Ajith Kumar and Col. Madhusudan Nair, extended their valuable messages to the students, encouraging them to serve their motherland on all occasions.


7. United Nations World Environment Day:

World Environment Day was celebrated on June 5, 2020. On the occasion, saplings were planted in the college campus by the teaching and non-teaching staff of the college. An online exhibition of the art and photography of the students of the college, 'Celebrating Biodiversity', was organised to mark the occasion. The exhibition was in accordance with this year's theme of UN World Environment Day.

The students enthusiastically participated in the exhibition, teleporting the viewers into the world of nature, through their lenses and pallets. The day also saw the students pledging to help protect the environment.

8. International Nurses Day:

As an honour to these noble beings, Bhavan’s College of Arts & Commerce celebrated International Nurses Day on May 12, 2020, by saluting nurses all over the world and extending congratulatory messages and wishes to them and all other healthcare workers on their special day, through a commemorative video and an ‘Art for gratitude’ competition, expressing themselves through various forms of creative art—drawing/sketching, poetry, calligraphy, etc.

The theme for the year 2020 celebration was ‘bringing the world back to health’.

9. International Day of Yoga:

‘Yoga for health - Yoga at home’ was the theme for International Day of Yoga 2020, given by India's mission to the UN as a special yoga module for 2020. Recognizing the importance of yoga in the era of Coronavirus, the college sent out its message through social media.

10. Reading Month Celebration:

Reading month was observed from June 19 to July 18, by the college. The event was entitled ‘Reading Maketh A Full Man’. In this regard, the following activities and competitions were held:
‘A Book a day’ was an activity where in each day one student posted a brief write up on her/his favourite book and her/his photograph holding the book. To enkindle the spirit in the students, the Principal, Dr. Verughese C. Abraham contributed the first post for the event. ‘Reading Maketh a Complete Man’ – An online quiz competition open to all and invited college and school students to participate. E-certificates were awarded to the winners and well scoring participants.

Into the third week of the Reading Month celebration a book review competition ‘In Review’ was organised for the students of Senior Secondary and Undergraduate classes. E-certificates were awarded to the winners.

11. ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas

Lest We Forget’ (observed on July 26) marked the commemoration of India’s victory over the enemy. The event helped reinforce and instil the virtues of gratitude and patriotism in the hearts of one and all.

12. World Nature Conservation Day:

The students came forward to give their message via social media, on the importance and urgency of conservation of nature.

13. World Youth Day:

On this day (August 12), the students sent forth messages emphasizing the importance and the need of having good mental health. They also shared Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and Swami
Vivekanand’s messages to the youth, through the video they prepared for the occasion.

14. Independence Day Celebration 2020:

The college proudly celebrated the 74th Independence day of our country. Valuable messages were given by the Principal, the Heads of the Departments, teachers and the students. Patriotic songs, posters and videos by the students marked the celebration. On the occasion, the students pledged to contribute towards unprecedented progress and prosperity of the nation.

15. World Photography Day

A photography competition ‘Lights and shadow’ was organised on August 19, for the students to participate. The competition saw enthusiastic participation.

16. Onam Celebration

Onam was celebrated on August 27, with much fervour. The programme was entitled ? ? ? ?? ... ?? ? ?? 2k20 ( ShradichOnam NallOnam ).
Various programmes pertaining to the Onam festivities were organised by the students. The programme that included dances, skits, songs, speeches etc. lent the day much colour. Each class presented a short programme, and prizes were awarded to the three best performing classes.

17. Teachers’ Day

The students took the opportunity to express their gratitude and affection towards the teachers and sought their wishes and blessings on the occasion. They created acrostic poems for the teachers, putting together an online celebration and creating a celebrative video compilation with their art, messages and photographs. They made the day very special for the teachers.
Further, the students also extended their wishes, greetings and messages on various other occasions, such as Eid-al-F, Guru Purnima, Ganesh Chaturthi, Sri Krishna Janmashtami, Hindi divas, National Handloom Day, Raksha Bandhan, and Global Tiger Day etc.

18. CONNECT 2020

The third issue of the college Newsletter was brought out and published online, highlighting the college in its various unique aspects.
